Enjoy all the festivities of the traditional Munich Oktoberfest celebrations right here in the Rocky Mountains, as Snowmass kicks off its fifth annual Oktoberfest presented by Becks. Dust off your lederhosen and dancing shoes and come celebrate the harvest season in Snowmass with this FREE family-friendly weekend of beer, cheer, brats, music and more.
The festival runs from noon to 6 p.m. and transforms the Snowmass Village Mall into a full-fledged traditional German village setting with meandering musicians playing old-world tunes. Alpine Echo plays traditional German music (12-1 p.m. and 2-3 p.m.) while D’Miesbacher OIM Taler performs traditional “Schuhplatte” or shoe patting dances (1-2 p.m. and 3-4 p.m.). NEW this year will also be a brat-eating contest and an “OOM-PAH” costume contest. The beer garden offers diverse German and American beers for sale from noon to 5 p.m., while German fare is offered for sale in tents by The Stewpot and The Brothers' Grille. Families can grab a brat, streudel, and a brew and let street performers such as Jammin Jim, Sparkles the Clown, and Kimothy the Stilt Walker entertain the children.
New Orleans child prodigy Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue take to the stage at 4 p.m. Hailing from Tremé, the most musical neighborhood in the most musical city – New Orleans, Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews has made the leap from child prodigy to Professional Master Musician. At 22 years old Troy has already experienced more than most musicians three times his age, and he has the chops to prove it. Having traveled extensively in the United States as well as Cuba, Europe, South America & The United Arab Emerites, Troy's live performances are astonishing, drawing praise from fellow luminaries such as Wynton Marsalis and Allen Toussaint. In 2007, New Orleans’ premier music magazine, Offbeat, named Andrews their Performer of the Year. He also garnered honors as Best Contemporary Jazz Performer. |
